Fugitive couple 'bragged' about illegally entering Canada
The man and woman arrested two weeks ago by Crowsnest Pass RCMP for unlawfully entering Canada were wanted U.S. fugitives, say the RCMP.
The pair were arrested at the Grand Union Tavern on May 24 after bragging about hopping a Canadian Pacific freight train in Montana and later disembarking in Coleman.
Staff called police, who took the couple into custody on immigration charges.
The pair had no ID on them, and refused to give police their real names.
After spending the night in police lockup, the two were handed over to Canadian Border Services Agency and held in Calgary pending deportation.
Jamie Darrin Nelson, 33, of Montana, was wanted on multiple warrants in the United States including heroin possession and resisting arrest.
His accomplice, 25-year-old Victoria Elizabeth Strong of California, was also wanted for failing to appear on a previous charge, as well as outstanding warrants for criminal trespass, possession of a controlled substance, possession of heroin and third degree theft.
The two have since been turned over to US authorities, and were not charged by the CBSA for entering Canada illegally.
