Gunfire claims Calgary man
One man is dead after a fatal shooting in the city's northeast — Calgary's first murder of the year. Just before 3 a.m. Tuesday, police received several reports of gunfire in the area of Whitehorn Dr. and Whiteview Rd. N.E. Declining to give her name, a homeowner who lives near the scene said she saw a person screaming for help next to a man lying in the middle of Whiteview Rd. Despite efforts by first responders performing CPR on the man, the unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene, reportedly suffering a gunshot wound to the head. The shooter fled the scene prior to police arrival. The Calgary police homicide squad have taken over the investigation, and remain at the scene looking for clues. While the city has been rocked by several high profile shootings since the new year, Tuesday's killing was Calgary's first murder of 2016.
